Inspirations

Bauhaus design was revolutionary for its day. It transformed the way the world looked at design. Bauhaus sought to combine the fine arts with crafts by closing the schism between art and industry.

Collage became an important landmark in the history of Cubism, & revolutionized Modern Art of the 20th century. Pablo Picasso & Georges Braque were among the first to use collage as a method for creating innovative art. They came up with the name “collage” from the French verb “coller” which means “to glue” or “to stick”.

As artists and photographers, we can be inspired by many things before clicking the shutter to capture a vision… or in my case, a sighting captured.

The Bauhaus Series First Edition was created by MonicaArts Design and printed at Neu Haus letterpress studio in Portland, Oregon in 2021. The Bauhaus Series Second Edition, was created exclusively by MonicaArts Design principal designer & artist, Monica Monaghan-Milstein, in 2022 & 2023.

The Bauhaus Series Second Edition, also created by MonicaPrints Design, employs the expressive application of mixed media, to explore compositional juxtaposition & relationships between mixed media layered forms & previously ‘fixed’ letterpress printed forms, revealing dynamic, dimensional relationships of color, depth of field, compositional shifts, and gestural detail — a uniquely original edition, which could only be fully realized with rendering by hand.
