Sighting Photo Series
Old English (ge)sihth ‘something seen’, of West Germanic origin; related to Dutch zicht and German Gesicht ‘sight, face, appearance’. The verb dates from the mid 16th century (in sight (sense 2 of the verb)).My preoccupation with pattern and composition dominate this Sighting Photo Series. My extensive work as a textile designer has honed my focus and orientation to pattern, emblematic in many of my designs.
In my Sighting Photo Series prints, I am most attracted to the uncontrived or unintentional occurrence of pattern, texture, color and composition. I prefer abstract perspective, where the context or ‘subject’ is less literal or recognizable, allowing the viewer to fully engage with visual study and enjoyment, without their mind’s eye mandating identification or unduly limiting what is being experienced & seen.
The visual content in this series ranges from the interest and textural beauty abundantly found in nature, to what may be less discovered or seen as beauty, often found in industrial settings, also rich with pattern, texture, shadow and form.
As artists and photographers, we can be inspired by many things before clicking the shutter to capture a vision…..or in my case, a sighting, captured. It can be light patterns at a particular time of day or year, or it might be the uniqueness of a fleeting occurrence or confluence of visual forms…..the possibilities are endless in the hungry mind of an artist.
